Dino Johnson, Given name, Dean Jeffery Johnson.
(Dino just sounds like more fun) Call me anything. I’ve sang for too many bands to remember. In the 80’s I
Started with a cover/original band in the Detroit area called "Nytrix"
My buddy Tiger Joe and the rest of the guys had a great time
till I moved to California. There were a few original bands for
short whiles. Then in ’84 I moved North To Alaska. I sang in a band called
Wedgwood in Fairbanks. Mike Wedgwood was the Bass player for Ki
Ki Dee. He helped arrange the song Don’t go breaking my heart
and went on tour with Elton John. I met up with him in a club in
Fairbanks, sat in and sang with the band for most of my 21st
year on this earth. The cold was too much. I moved back
home to Detroit. In Detroit I was with a few cover bands;
Slammer, Cell Out, Disguise, and Krypton. I wanted to get back
to the original side of things and hooked up with a High school
buddy named Kevin Anisbigian. We wrote around 20 songs together.
It was great to be writing again, but we needed to put a band
together. We called it "Twelve Feet Deep". It was a blast but yet
again, I think we had too many chiefs and not enough Indians.
Then I got with a band called "Without A Face". We put out a
couple of CD’s and had some good reviews, but that too came to
a end. The latest band before this one was a band
called, "The
Ride". The Fun in your face cover band. In this
time
period (2004), I sang in a "Piston Idol" contest at
the Palace of Auburn Hills for the Pistons. I came in second place.
The runner up award wasn’t so bad. They booked us at the Palace
for the home playoff games that year. Not bad considering they
won the championship. There were 22,000 people in the stadium, and I sang
(Eye of the tiger) (Shout), and (Magic power), by Truimph. Again I needed to get back to the original
side of things. Because of the Ride I met a lot of great players
in the Detroit area. One name is
Eddie Leighton. We hooked up
and with his arsenal of songs, and my want for singing. I think
this will be a long and exciting time to come. I’ve often been asked why I haven’t made
it yet? My answer is, I made it a long time ago. I love making people
smile, and if my singing and performing is what makes them smile,
then that is something money can’t buy. I would do this for free
till I die. Thanks for all the support from everyone who has
touched my life, and I am blessed to have touched yours.
