John's gallery is currently under construction
John Fain, was born and raised in Detroit, Mi. A self taught keyboard extraordinaire. At the early age of eleven years old, John's parents bought him his first organ. He learned the keyboard scales very fast, and started playing music that his parents really couldn't understand.
He learned, (96 tears) by "Question mark and the Mysterians". At this time in music, this song was considered hard to play. But not for John, because from there he reached out even further, and grabbed a hold of some songs from Emerson, Lake , and Palmer.
During the Jr. High school days, he ran into Eddie Leighton, and asked him if he new any bands that needed a keyboard player. Eddie connected him with some other musician friends, and John started playing out with his first band called, "The Tears of Fire". The band had Rick Vuk, playing bass for them. (Current basses for "Leighton") They played all over Detroit, and Ohio, at High school dances, and non-drinking clubs. But eventually, the band broke up. So John, and Rick, merge with Eddie Leighton into the band, "Curtis Hyflash. They performed
all around Detroit, and were a very popular bar band at the time. This lasted for about three years, and the band broke up, and everyone went separate ways.
John started playing with other musicians, and connected with Joe Fava, and formed a band called "Scandal". Again, John started performing around the Detroit area, in all the popular nightclubs of the time. This lasted for about four years, until the band decided to call it quits. So John, and Joe, went separate ways. But it wasn't the last time John would play with Eddie, and Rick. Because in 1981, they remerge together into a band called "Artist", and asked Joe Fava to be the drummer. John started honing in on his writing ability's, and co-wrote a song with Eddie Leighton, (Out on the road again), that ended up winning first place, beating out 30,000 entries in the Miller Highlife, Rock to Riches Contest. The band won a record release on Atlantic Records. The song was played on radio stations all across the United States. But we had inexperienced management, (John recalls), and the band ended up breaking up within three months of winning the contest. So again, we all went seperate ways.
John performed with a number of local bands for the next few years. But in late 2006, he received a call from Eddie Leighton, asking him if he would be interested in putting a band together with Joe Fava, Rick Vuk, and Dino Johnson. So here we go again. We are back in the recording studio, working on a new Cd. We have some excellent shows coming up. This is going to be a exciting year for all of us. We have a lot of experience together, and a lot of talent in this band. We are going to have a lot of fun with this new CD. It's a good one!!!
